Arizona Players "SPOTLIGHT"
|
Question: Ok, let's get started. How long have you been in Arizona?
42 years
Question: How old are you now and how long have you been playing pool?
46. Probably been playin pool since I was about 17 I guess
Question: Married, single, close, or what?
I am no longer living as a bachelor
Question: What do you do for a living?
Fireman
Question: When did you first take an interest in pool?
I think I was about 5 years old, went to some peoples house with a pool table in the other room and
I remember I was just captivated by it immediately. I rarely ever got the chance to play as a young
kid. During summer recreation we used to play the carom game with the four net pockets and the
little green and red rings.
Question: What is your current rating?
10… with bigger tits I’d be a 10-1
Question: Do you practice?
Yes. I used to practice 6-8 hours a day when I wasn’t working, but for about the last 2 years I don’t
practice as much as I used to.
Question: How many tournaments do you play in a week?
Zero - There aren’t many opportunities as a 10. Main Street’s Tuesday night open is a great
tournament for good players and players that want to get better.
Question: What's your thoughts on Arizona pool in general?
It’s moving forward. The recent Desert Dust-Off created a lot of excitement and opportunity
allowing players and pool fans to see the best from all over the west. Alexanders has always been
at the forefront hosting major events. Olhousen All-Around Tour has brought a lot of
opportunities to first level players. Many new up and coming players are starting to come out and
play. It’s amazing how the overall skill of all the players in the valley is so much better. I get to
see the 7’s and 8 rated players at Alexanders and I am convinced that today’s 7’s are way better
than the 7’s from 1990.
Question: What is the strongest part of your game?
My all around knowledge
Question: What about your most obvious weakness?
I can’t beat Ron Merseal
Question: If you could pick anyone in the Valley to play with you in a high dollar scotch doubles
tournament, and the max rating was (18), who would you pick, and why?
Brandon Butler. I like his attitude. His game is really improving. But really, I don’t drink Scotch, I
don’t use Scotch tape, I don’t wear plaid, and I don’t play scotch doubles.
Question: What is your favorite pool game?
One pocket
Question: What is your idea of the perfect tournament format?
The perfect tournament format would be 8 man round robins with long races for 3 or 4 hundred
dollar entry fees.
Question: What do you think is the hardest shot in pool?
Shooting a ball into one corner pocket and going across the table and getting perfectly on the
other rail.
Question: What is the biggest match you have ever been in?
When I beat Shannon Daulton in Vegas at the 2005 US Open One Pocket tournament.
Question: Other than Scott Frost, who are the two best players in Arizona?
Terry Osborne. I’ve been learning things from him for 20 years. Jimmy Mendoza. I think him
recently taking up the game of straight pool has brought his game up a ball or two. His position
play is really solid. I talked with him about it at the last Olhousen event and he agreed.
Question: What is your favorite pool related memory?
When old man Bob put a Teflon bullet through that guy’s heart on the last day the Golden Eight
Ball was open.
Question: What would be your one piece of advice, in regards to playing pool, to other players.
Don’t worry about getting beat and being thought of as a sucker. Get out there and play in the
bigger and tougher tournaments.
Question: What is your favorite sport, excluding pool of course?
College Wrestling
Question: Do you have a message you would like to pass along to the pool world?
When we match up, would ya miss a ball sometime, or maybe a bank? Give me a little error… I’m
tired of losing my dough! Also, endeavor to persevere.
End........ Thanks Tres
