MAIN EVENT TOURNAMENT

AWBT’s very 1st stop for the 12th season. January 13th &14th, 2007 a WPBA qualifier at Sixshooters!

40 women came out to play in AWBT’s very 1st stop at Sixshooters. Let me tell you, this tournament
was a very long weekend for all of us. It was a paid 9 – ball qualifier for a spot in a 2007 WPBA Classic
Event of the winners choice. We want to thank all the ladies who participated and to Sixshooters for
having us come out and play.

With the hot seat match Holly Sholes and Bernie Store were up against each other for the hot seat.
Both ladies played an excellent match. The final score was 7 – 4 with Holly taking the win. At this time
Holly had time to take a breather while waiting to play her next opponent.

The semi final match got under way with Susan Mello up against Bernie Store and Mello won the lag.
Last month at our final 9 – ball tournament  of the 11th season at Sixshooters Mello had a terrible cold
and with this match it was apparent that she was back, feeling 100% better and winning the 1st game.
Bernie won the 2nd game and Mello was able to get the win for the 3rd game. So far, at that moment
the score was 2 – 1 in favor of Mello. On the 4th game when it cam down to the 9 ball, because of a
tough reach Mello got out the bridge and successfully made the 9 making the score 3 – 1. Bernie  made
a beautiful 2 / 9 combo on the 5th game and the score was now 3 – 2. With the 6th game Bernie’s
Mental game took a turn for the better, evening up the score 3 – 3. Mello gained the win for the 7th and
the score was now 4 – 3. On the 8th game, once again, Bernie evened up the score 4 – 4. Mello,
determined to win this match, went on to win the 9th and 10th games making the score 6 – 4 and
putting her on the hill. Even though the game went back and forth Mello took control of the table and
won the match making the final score 7 – 4. Now Susan Mello will go to battle it out with Holly Sholes
for the final match

For the final match it came down to Holly Sholes vs. Susan Mello and since this was a true double
elimination tournament Mello will have to beat Holly 2 matches of a race to 7. Holly won the lag and
broke the 1st game. This game went back and forth between the two ladies with  tough shots and
safeties. Mello got her 1st win. On the 2nd game broke and after they both took a few turns at the table
Mello’s object ball was the 3. She hit it and caromed 9 ball all the way down the table in the corner
pocket making the score 2 – 0. For the 3rd game the Ladies once  again, went back and forth and with
good shape on the 9 Mello got her 3rd win making the Score 3 – 0. Mello had an incredible break and
run out of the table for the 4th game and the score was now 4 – 0. On the 5th game Holly had a nice run,
but because the 8 and 9 ball were somewhat locked up she was forced to play a safe. Mello attempted
to bank the 8 in the side pocket, but the 8 ball didn’t make it in. With good shape on the 8 Holly was able
to run the two balls and gain her 1st win making the score now 4 – 1. The 6th game Mello broke. Holly
had a nice little run. The table was turned over to Mello and with 4 ball left on the table she ran out. The
score was now 5 – 1. The 7th game Holly broke and ran the whole table out with the score now at 5 – 0.
For the 8th game Mello broke making a ball  and playing safe. Holly was unable to hit the 1 ball which
gave Mello ball in hand and the advantage  of running the table out. The score was 6 – 2 and Mello was
now on the hill. The 9th game Holly broke and made nothing. This game was quick and Mello got the win
with a final score of 7 –2.

The two ladies took a short break to re-group and soon after the lag was won by Mello. After the break
and sinking a ball for the 1st game Mello got a great safety with the 1 ball. Holly got a good hit. This
game went back and forth once again and the 4 ball was not will to play nice for them. When the game
came down to the 6 ball Holly bobbled the 6 and scratched giving ball in hand to Mello. She ran out all 4
remaining balls to gain her fist win. The 2nd game Holly broke making a ball and when she went for the
1 ball she bobbled it near the corner pocket. Mello got to the table and missed pocketing the 1. Holly
made the 1 and a great combo the 2 / 9 in the corner pocket. The 3rd game Mello broke and ran the
table up to the 4 that she played safe on. Holly was unable to hit the 4 ball. With ball in hand Mello
Played another safe. Holly was still unable to hit the 4 and scratched. Again Mello Played safe in
attempt to 3 foul her, but this time Holly was able to make contact with the 4 ball and hit a rail. The
ladies both bounced the 5 ball around for a bit then Mello finally pocketed it in the corner. With only 3
balls left on the table Mello was able to run out and the score was now 2 – 1. Mello broke on the 4th
game. Holly played safe and Mello was able to hit it. Holly made the 1 ball but accidentally hooked
herself on the 2 that she got a good hit out of. Both ladies poked at the 2. Mello made the 2 ball and
when she went for the 3 the ball made contact with the 9, but didn’t make the pocket. Holly bared  down
on the table and ran it out evening the score up 2 – 2. The ladies took mini break and then started back
up again. Mello broke for the 5th game. Holly made the 1 and 2, but missed the 3 ball. With the 3 lined up
for a long combo on the 9,  Mello was unable to pocket the 9. Holly was able to run the table and the
score was now 3 – 2. On the 6th game Holly broke and made a ball. Since she was unable to see the 1
ball she pushed out. Mello was unable to make the 1. When Holly went for the 1 she bobbled it near the
corner pocket and go a nice safety out of it too’.  Both the ladies went back and forth again. Holly had a
beautiful run, but when she tried to bank the 9 into the side pocket it bobbled.
Mello made a spectacular long bank of the 9 ball in the corner. She evened the score at 3 – 3. For the
7th game Mello broke and ran the table up to the 4 ball. Holly took her time and with great shape on
each ball was able to run out making the score 4 – 3. Holly broke for the 8th game and unfortunately the
cue ball flew off the table. The game continued on and after Mello made the 3 ball she hooked herself
on the 4 with successfully getting a good hit out of it. Holly couldn’t pocket the 4 ball and Mello was able
to run the table but missed the pocket on the 9 ball. Holly got the win and the score was 5 – 3. After
Mello broke for the 9th game. Holly got a nice little run but bobbled the 4 ball and playing safe. Mello got
out her jump cue and made jumped over a cluster of balls making the 4 ball in the corner pocket and
missed the 5 ball. Holly also, missed the 5 ball. Mello made a difficult 5 ball  with the cue lining up for a 6
/ 9 combo for the win with the score now at 4 – 5.  For the 10th game holly broke. Mello scratched while
trying to make a difficult 3 ball. With ball in hand Holly ran out putting her on the hill with  Mello still
sitting on 4. On the 11th game Mello snapped the 9 on the break catching up to Holly with a score of 5 –
6. Holly broke for the 12th game. Mello made the 1 ball and tried to play safe on the 2 ball. Again the two
of them went back and forth. With 3 balls left on the table Holly had too difficult a shot on the 6 so, she
opted to play safe. Mello was able to kick at the 6, but unfortunately scratched giving Holly ball and in
hand and a 3 ball out with a final score of  7 – 5. Great come-back on that 2nd match Holly.
