The 2006 AzBCA State Championships were held at the Bluewater Resort in Parker,
Arizona on March 24th, 25th, and 26th, 2006. To label this event a success is really not
doing justice to those involved in putting the tournament together and those involved in
running the event. From the folks at the BCAPL in Henderson, Nevada to the handful of
players that are part of the AzSTC here in Arizona, the Azpoolscene website wants to say
thanks for what we consider to be the biggest and most widely successful pool
tournament ever ran in the state of Arizona. The venue was incredible, the tournament
ran as smooth as ever could be expected, and the fact that the tournament drew ten
ladies teams, thirty-five ladies singles, twenty-eight mens teams, and one hundred
eighteen mens singles is proof in the pudding that the choice of the Bluewater, as host,
and the AzBCA group did an incredible job.
As mentioned above there were four events held with $5000.00 added by the Bluewater
Resort. Two players in particular captured two first place finishes during the weekend.
Bernie Store won the Ladies Singles Championship and also was part of the team that
won the Ladies Team Championship. Larry Eans won the Mens Singles Championship
and was also part of the team that won the Mens Team Championship. Congratulations
to these two players on their dual championships.
As a sponsor, Alexander’s Sports Bar sent the largest contingent of players to the
tournament and captured an astounding 56% of the top four places in the four events
including an unbelievable trifecta in the Ladies Singles event. Four Alexander’s
sponsored players were in the top twelve in the Mens Singles including three of the top
four places. Four of the top eight teams in the Mens Teams event play out of Alexander’s.
Two of the top four teams in the Ladies Team event came from Alexander’s including the
first place finish, and, saving the most unbelievable for last, Alexander’s players finished
first, second, and third in the Ladies Singles!
