Dave Collins Tucson’s Tournament of Champions Champion
All of Tucson’s Main Street Billiards in-house tournament champions for 2005, gathered together February 4th for the
annual prestigious tournament of champions. When all of the championship nine ball play had ceased, Dave Collins
stood alone at the top, becoming the first player ever to capture two “TOC” crowns. Dave edged out Andy Kachur in the
finals. On a special note, out of the last four years, Andy has been the “TOC” runner-up three times. “Ajo” Charlie
Cameron took home third place honors, with last years “TOC” champion Jack Rippel rounding out the final four.
Along with the $285.00 prize and sidepot money Dave put in his pocket, Dave received a beautiful plaque
commemorating his victory, and $500.00 Main Street Bucks.

Nicky & Andy Headed Back to A.C.U.I. Nationals
The best collegiate players from Arizona, Colorado, Utah, New Mexico, Wyoming, and Nevada converged on the
University of Arizona February 24th and 25th, for the A.C.U.I. Regionals, to see who would move on to the Nationals.
After the last nine ball had been pocketed, Tucson’s Main Street Billiards own Nicky Hayashi and Andy Kachur stood
above everyone else as they won their respective divisions. This regional win made it a “back to back” one for Nicky
who also won last year’s regional in New Mexico. This will also be Andy’s second trip to the Nationals, his first as the
regional champion.
The A.C.U.I. Nationals will be held this year in conjunction with the B.C.A. Junior Nationals, to be held at the University
of Arizona in Tucson, July 5th – 9th, 2006.

All our best wishes for Nicky and Andy at the Nationals – Get the Gold!
Nicky and Don Defend Title
Sweethearts Nicky Hayashi and Don Westbrooks teamed up again to win Tucson’s Main Street Billiards Annual
Bonny and Clyde St. Valentines shootout.
This bar box eight ball special event was presented by Tucson’s APA and ACS leagues, and special event it was as
over forty people participated.
The evenings activities kicked off with a free dinner for two for all participating couples. After dinner each couple
received a free studio photo, and then it was time for some eight ball, mixed scotch doubles style.
Nicky and Don lost the “Hot Seat” match to Tracey Elliott and Bob Palmer, who were making pretty quick work of all
their opponents. While these two teams were going toe to toe, a big battle was under way on the one loss side.
Adrianne Ferguson and Jeff Deerinwater were faced off against Abby and Jim Bentley. Adrianne and Jeff advanced
leaving Abby and Jim with an outstanding fourth place finish. Next up was Nicky and Don to see who would advance
to the finals. The ACS team outran the APA team, leaving Adrianne and Jeff with the bronze medal.
The finals, team mates and friends all. Mr. Westbrooks banking prowess was the difference, allowing him and Nicky
to claim this event for another year. Runners-up Tracey and Bob get a big Main Street hats off for their outstanding
finish.
More inter-league events are on the drawing board, bringing more excitement to the old pueblo.
The Little Guy Can Scotch It Up Too
Ten year old “Little Ronnie” Kidd III teamed up with Larry Gerber to take top honors at Tucson’s Main Street Billiards
February edition of their Super Scotch Doubles, undefeated and not allowing their opponents to win a single game in
the finals, ( a team consisting of two “9” rated players).
With out taking anything away from Larry Gerber’s contribution to his team’s winning efforts, it has been nothing short
of amazing, and a real treat, for all of Tucson to watch Ronnie reach his current skill level at such an early age.
Runners-up Richard Hoskins and Bob Palmer, whose only losses came at the hands of Ronnie and Larry, played
outstanding, and scored some pretty nice scotch dollars with their sidepot participation.
Phil Ferranti and Dave Crowell teamed up just before the draw, and shot their way to the podium with a very respectful
third place finish.
The next Super Scotch Shootout is scheduled for March 18th, 2006 – As always any Phoenix area teams may phone in
their reservations.
