Alexander's Sports Bar hosted the first of ten legs of the 2006
Olhausen Arizona State Desert All-Around Tour on January 21st &
22nd. Sixty-four players made up the field which was loaded with
most of the higher rated players from the state of Arizona. The
tournament was $1000 added and was a double elimination, race to
nine games, 9-ball format with a one race final to (13) games. Jimmy
Mendoza won the tournament and $2,630.00, coming from the
one-loss side, by defeating Bobby Ast in the finals. Bobby, who had
earlier sent Jimmy to the left side of the bracket, finished second.
Jimmy, Chris Adams, Bobby Ast, and Doug Hale were the final four on
the winners side. Bobby forced Jimmy to the left side while Doug was
doing the same to Chris. The hot seat match was won by Bobby when
he defeated Doug 9-7. Jimmy then defeated Chris and Doug to
escape the one-loss side of the bracket and earn another shot at
Bobby for all the marbles in the race to (13) finals.
Jimmy jumped to the early lead in the finals but his continuous
scratching on the break allowed Bobby to claw his way back.
