Freezer cools the Tucson Desert Classic Tour
Scott "The Freezer" Frost comes back from the
one-lose side to take the 8th stop of the Desert
Classic Tour held at beautiful Pockets in Tucson,
Arizona.  Lenny and the staff did a fantastic job of
putting on this event.  And the players
responded.  66 players entered the tournament
and 5 others had to be turned away at the last
second to get this event started on Saturday,
November 15th.  The event was the 2nd to last
stop on the inaugural season of the Desert
Classic Tour.
The goal was to bring back 16 players all in the
money on Sunday, but with a ton of tight matches,
Saturday's play ran past midnight.  On Sunday 24
players were brought back to via for the Tour
Stop.  8 of which would be sent home in 17-24th
place and no cash.
Sunday got off with a bang as all the top players
showed why they belong on top.
Scott Frost,
Jimmy Mendoza, Chuck Evans and Mitch
Ellerman
earned their way to the Final 4 on the
winners side.
Over on the losers side we had
Leil Gay, Chris
Paradowski, Rudy Alameda, Dennis Orender,
Sammy Martinez, Ray Robles, Jack Rippell,
George Ramirez, Mike Traher, Nick Deleon,
Alan Pettis
and Don Westbrooks all make it to
the money rounds.
Back on the winners side Jimmy Mendoza
jumped out to a big lead against Scott Frost 4 - 0,
and then held on for the 8 - 6 win.  Joining Jimmy

for the Hotseat match was Mitch Ellerman with a win over
Chuck Evans.
Both Scott and Chuck faced some very hungry players on the
losers side of the board.  Leil Gay knocked Chuck out in
5th/6th place with another impressive run at the Desert Classic
Tour.  But Scott was able to take advantage of a deflated Chris
Paradowski, from Tucson, to advance.  Chris mentioned that
he ran out of gas after an extremely tough match with Dennis
Orender, who finished in 7th/8th with Tucson's own Rudy
Alameda.  In the next match two great One-Pocket players
faced off in this 10-ball event with Frost getting the best of Leil
and sending him home in 4th place and $350.
Over on the hot seat match, two teammates squared off to
play for the final Winners Side spot. This match can be seen
on
www.OnTheRailTV.com for free.  With these two friends
matching up there is always fireworks.  And this time Mitch
"The Wonderboy" Ellerman came out firing and sent Jimmy
over to play a rematch with Scott.  This time though Scott was
able to revenge his earlier loss and leave Jimmy with 3rd Place
and $580.
The finals were setup against the two 10(-2) rated players in the
state of Arizona.  These two have battled numerous times and they
both shoot an extremely quick game.  In there last match-up in a
previous Desert Classic Tour Stop, they completed the entire set in
only 29 minutes.  But the additional ball in 10-ball prevented these
two from pocketing half the balls on their monster breaks and
running quick racks.  Scott jumped out to an early lead at 4 - 0 in
this one set race to 11 for the title.  And just as quickly as he built a
lead, Mitch came back to tie it up at 4 - 4.  Scott pushed ahead
again with 4 more straight games to get to 8 - 4.  And just like before
Mitch started his climb back.  He won the next 2 games and then
scratched at 8 - 6 to turn control back over to Scott.  From here, he
showed the heart of a true champion by winning the remaining 3
games and the overall points lead with a 11 - 6 victory.  Mitch
finished in 2nd place and took home $870, while Scott took home
$1335 for his 1st place finish.
