Breaking News #210
Rudy takes home Stop #6 at DCT
On September 13th & 14th, 35 players
moved over to
Bullshooters for the 2nd
consecutive event.  This time the game was
bar box 8-ball.  The event was previously
scheduled to take place at Metro Sportz Bar,
but because of some legal issues had to be
moved.  Bullshooters did an amazing job of
getting their tables ready in a very short time.

At the end of Saturday's play, 8 players
returned on Sunday, all of which were in the
money.  On the winners side we had
Rudy
Alameda vs. Dale Teague
and Jimmy
Mendoza vs. Jack Scerca
.  On the other
side the four players remaining were,
Nick
DeLeon, Pete Lhotka, Dennis Orender
and Brian Begay
.  Getting to the hot seat
match was Rudy and Jimmy both with impressive wins.  Nick knocked Pete out in 7th/8th and Dennis knocked Brian out to join
him.  This next matches were Nick vs Dale and Jack vs Dennis.  After a close beginning tied at 3, Nick pulled away sending
Dale home in 5th/6th place.  In the other one lose side match, Jack would keep Dennis in his chair early to take a 3 - 1 lead.
Dennis got back to the table, but they both traded racks back and forth through the remainder of the match.  Dennis finished in
5th/6th place with Dale.  In the next Match, Nick DeLeon and Jack Scerca faced off, with the loser taking 4th place.  Both
players missed some key shots early, but Nick was able to put it together first and send Jack home.

Over on the Winners side of the board the hot seat match was being shown Live on the Internet with the help of
OnTheRailTV.com.  Lenny Marshall had planned on filming both days, but had some technical difficulties on Saturday.  Rudy,
from Tucson, faces Jimmy, from Phoenix, with the loser getting to play an extra match on the losers side in order to win the
tournament.  Rudy jumped out to a quick lead with his aggressive fast style, but Jimmy was able to claw a few games out early.
Rudy then pushed the lead to 5 - 3 and then got to the hill first at 6 - 4.  Jimmy looked determined in rack 11 as he ran through a
very tough rack.  He pocketed his last ball and came down just a little long on the 8 ball.  Jimmy lined it up and fired it into the
corner pocket only to watch the cue ball fall in the side pocket to seal the hot seat for Rudy.

After a short break, Jimmy and Nick faced off for the 3rd
place match.  Again Nick's quick style seemed to hinder
his game as he missed 2 routine shots early.  Jimmy,
wanting to get back to the 1-set finals match, buckled
down and ran out from everywhere.  Nick got into the
match at 3 - 1, but was never able to overcome the initial
lead as Jimmy won with a 7 - 5 score.  Congratulations to
Nick for his 3rd place victory.

For the finals match, Dennis Orender and Tournament
Director Bull jumped in the commentary box to provide
play-by-play.  They also fielded questions and comments
from the online chat window on
OnTheRailTV.com.
Rudy jumped out to an early lead before Jimmy tied it
back at 2 - 2.  But Rudy was shooting extremely lose as
he strung together the next few games in this one set race
to 10 finals.  Jimmy fought hard and won a few more
games, but Rudy put the pressure on down the stretch
and got to the hill first.  Jimmy was able to win only one
more game before Rudy finished off the tourney.
Congratulations to both guys for a great tournament.

With Jimmy's 2nd place finish he jumped into 1st place in
the Overall Desert Classic Tour Standings.  Mitch
Ellerman was the points leader, but was defeated on Day
1 to drop out of the top spot.  Rudy also jumped up a few
spots with his victory.  Only 2 stops remain on the 2008
Tour's schedule before the big fireworks of the Big
Money added finale.  To qualify to play in the Finale, you
must have played in 2 or more tour stops.  So, if you
have not participated in an event yet this year, you must
play in the final two stops.  Stop #7 is One Pocket at
Kolby's in Tempe on October 18th & 19th.  And the final
qualifier is Big Table 10-ball at Main St. Tucson on
November 15th and 16th.  Both of these locations are key
supporters of the Desert Classic Tour and will be run
with great professionalism.

A special thanks to Bullshooters, for once again coming
to the rescue and putting together an awesome
tournament venue.  The new owners have done a
fantastic job with the entire place, and if you haven't
checked it out yet, I highly recommend that you get in
there.  Thanks to Jimmy, Dennis and Bull for putting
together another great tour stop.  Your work does not go
unnoticed to the rest of Arizona's Pool Players.  And
Thanks to Lenny for Streaming the tournament Live on
the Internet for Free.

Updated Standings and Payouts will be coming shortly.
