Breaking News #202
2008 Arizona BCA State Championship
Arizona Players from around the state ascended onto Payson,
AZ on August 7th - 10th, 2008 to compete in the 2008 Arizona
BCA State 8-ball Championships.  60 Men competed in the
Men's Open, 30 Women in the Women's Open, 7 Masters
Men, 5 Masters Women, 22 Men's/Mixed Teams and 7
Women's Teams.

This tournament is usually held in March every year, but
because of some scheduling conflicts and the Vegas
tournament in May the tournament had to be moved until
August.  The venue also changed from Parker, AZ to Payson,
AZ and was played at the Mazatzal Casino.  The Bingo Hall
was converted into a prime billiards room.  16 pro-cut Diamond
Bar Boxes were trucked in for the event and as usual played
perfect.  The room was very spacious with plenty of room
between tables for spectators and players to play there games
uninterrupted.

The Open Singles events kicked off first with all players racing
to 5 games.  The Master's started the next afternoon.  The
Men's Master Event had a small turn-out but wasn't lacking
any talent.  Dennis Orender, the 2007 Master's Champion,
battled through some early games and came from behind
numerous times to play for the Hot-Seat.  Terry Tucker, from
Yuma, came very focused and worked his way through Mike

Williams and Pete Lyotka to meet Dennis in the hot-seat
Match.  After a tough battle to 7 games the defending champ
sent Terry to the one-lose side.  But that didn't last long as
Terry made quick work of Pete 7 - 1 to get another shot at
Dennis.  Terry came out firing but Dennis's experience of
being in this position before help push him to the title with a
10-6 score.  Congrat's to Dennis for repeating as the Master's
Mens Champion.

In the Women's Master's Event they had a small field of 5
players. The Tournament Director's decided that they should
all play a round robin.  At the end the top two players would
advance to the finals to play for the title.  Susan Williams and
Bernie Store both came away with the best Win/Lose records
to advance.  In the Finals both players played outstanding
pool.  But a few rolls here and there ended up being the
deciding factor as Susan Williams continued her strong 2008
career and became the 2008 Women's BCA Masters 8-Ball
Champion.
On the morning of the singles event Stevie Caylor, from
Prescott Valley, arrived to check out the board, only to not
find her name on the chart.  With a slight mishap she was
actually drawn into the Men's Open Division.  Her opponent
in the Men's Draw coincidentally turned out to be Jerry
Stuckart, the 2008 BCA Open Champ.  After the
tournament director's fixed the glitch in the matrix, Stevie
was back in the Women's draw and ready to play.

There were many women that looked hungry for the title,
including Lourdes Lomelo, Noel Rima and Sonia Florez.
But in the end, Stevie Caylor played some great games to
secure the title.  The entire pool room erupted in joy as the
last 8 ball fell.  It was great to see the small community
come together and show support for each other.  Stevie
took home $725 for 1st place and Lourdes Lomelo took
home $525 for 2nd.  Great Shooting Girls!
