March 7th, 2008 ......... By Ron Merseal
Thought I would give everyone an update on the new Arizona Desert Classic
Tour, that starts this month, in regards to players rated (8) and under.
The first thing I want to remind everyone is the fact that a major recent decision has been made, by
the organizers of this tour, in regards to the players rated an eight or under that plan on
participating in this years tour. Because the races in every event on the Desert Classic Tour are not
handicapped, Dennis Orender and Jimmy Mendoza put their thinking caps on in an effort to come up
with something that would attract the players rated eight or below. Personally, I think what they
have come up with is a great addition to the Tour. The player rated an eight or below that finishes
highest on the year end points list will receive a Dale Teague Custom Cue. The eight or under
player that finishes second highest on the year end points list will receive free entry into the finale
Championship Tournament in December, 2008. The additional incentive for the eight and under
players is the decision made recently to have a separate side pot for those players in each and
every event on this years tour. In other words, if you are an eight or under rated player and you
enter any event on the new Arizona Desert Classic Tour, you will have the option to enter a side pot
totally separate from the regular side pots offered to the players rated nine and above. Of course,
only the eight and under players will share in the (8) and under side pot(s).
Another important piece to remind everyone about, is the added money for the events on this Tour.
Every event will have at least $1,000.00 added. The final Championship Tournament, played in
December, will be at least $4,000.00 added. That number could and most likely will grow quickly. The
$4,000.00 added is based on the tour having (50) players. With all the money from the $40.00
membership fees being added back in for the finale, the added money for the finale will increase by
$1000.00 for every (25) registered players exceeding (50). In other words if the Tour attracts (75)
players, the finale will be $5,000.00 added. With (100) registered players, the added money, in the
finale, will be $6,000.00. You have to play in a minimum of two 2008 events to be eligible to play in
the Championship finale.
