The Prankster Wins $1,520 At Alexander's Eight and Under 9-Ball Tournament
Jeff Pranke Wins, Steve Stowers 2nd, and Tom Auston Third
Based on the huge success of the $500.00 added 9-
Ball tournament Alexander’s, in Phoenix, had when
they ran that tournament in January for all players
rated eight and under, Alexanders held the exact
same tournament on February 9th & 10th.  Once
again, the players came out in force.  Fifty players
showed for the February edition.  The format called
for a race to the player’s full handicap, with winner
break and loser rack.  The tournamet was double
elimination.

Saturdays play consisted of playing the bracket to
reduce the field to twelve players.  These twelve
returned on Sunday and were all in the cash.
Returning on Sunday, on the winners side, were Jeff
Pranke, Tom Auston, Steve Stowers, and Cody
Grannis.  Returning on Sunday with one loss were
Joe Masi, Bernie Store, Donald Mangahas, Rick
Cosman, Hopell Ampongan, Tom Farr, Mackay Alpert,
and “Movin Marvin” Valdez.

Losing their first match on Sunday, on the one-loss
side, were Bernie, Donald, Hopell, and Mackay.
These four players were forced to settle for 9th-
12th.  Over on the winner’s side Pranke defeated
Grannis while Auston defeated Stowers.  These wins
set up the hot seat match between Jeff Pranke and
Tom Auston.  Jeff won the hot seat and a spot in the
finals when he defeated Tom eight games to four.

Back on the one-loss side Masi defeated Cosman
while Valdez defeated Farr.  Farr and Cosman
settled for a 7/8 place finish.  The fifty player field
was now down to six players with Steve Stowers
playing Joe Masi and Marvin Valdez playing Cody
Grannis.  Pranke sat in the hot seat and Auston
waited for his opponent for the one-loss side final
match.  Valdez and Stowers both won leaving Masi
and Grannis tied for 5/6.  Steve Stowers then
defeated Marvin Valdez which left Marvin with a
very respectable 4th place finish.  The one-loss side
finals were next pitting Stowers against Tom
Auston.  The loser of this match would finish third
while the winner would advance to the finals against
Jeff Pranke.  Also at stake was a chance to continue
on for a shot at the $1,520 first place prize money!
Stowers got his chance when he defeated Tom
leaving Tom with a third place finish.

In the first and only set of the finals, with both
players racing to eight games, the match was real
close all the way to the end.  With Steve Stowers
battling Jeff Pranke game for game, the score after
twelve games stood 6-6.  Jeff then won the next two
games to close Steve out and capture the
tournament win and the $1520.00 first place prize
money.  Congrats to Steve Stowers on his second
place finish and to Jeff “The Prankster” Pranke on
his huge win.
Jeff Pranke 1st and Steve Stowers 2nd
Third Place Tom Auston
Fourth Place Marvin Valdez
