On Thanksgiving weekend, Alexander's (in Phoenix,
Arizona) was the place to be if you were a seven or
under rated pool player. Alexander's held a $555.55
added 9-Ball tournament and twenty-nine players
broke away from their family, friends, and turkey, to
take a shot at a good payday. Probably a good idea
with Christmas right around the corner.
On Saturday, Alexander's played the tournament down
to eight players then ended the action for the day.
Those eight players returned on Sunday. Four
players still on the winners side and four players over
on the left side of the board. The players returning
were eventual tournament winner Dick Krenz along
with Bill Moore, Andy Davis, Willie Harris, Leo
Satterwhite, Randy Thompson, Glenn Sigler, and Tim
Rachu.
As the tournament progressed on Sunday, Dick Krenz
won the hot seat and waited while the one loss side
eliminated the players in search of Dick's opponent
for the finals. The player emerging to face Dick, in the
finals, was none other than Bill Moore, one of
Phoenix's hardest working and favorite pool players.
Bill was faced with having to defeat Dick twice in this
true double elimination event. Bill almost forced a
finals second set when he jumped out to a 6-2 lead in
a race to seven in the first set. However, Dick was
not to be denied as he won the last five games of the
set to win the tournament and $710.00. Bill took home
$425.00 for his second place finish. Andy Davis and
Willie Harris, both from Prescott, finished 3rd and 4th.
Randy Thompson and Leo Satterwhite finished 5th/6th.
Tim Rachu and Glenn Sigler finished 7th/8th.
Dale Teague, from Dale Teague Custom Cues,
presented Dick with a $350.00 Dale Teague Custom
Cues gift certificate for winning the tournament.
