Alexander's Sports Bar held their first ever Midnight-Madness pool tournament on Saturday November
19th, 2005. The format for the tournament called for single elimination 10-ball, race to eight games,
with a $75.00 entry fee and the chance to buy back in the tournament after your first loss for $50.00.
The entries, buy backs, added money from Alexander's, and side pots created a total payout of over
$2400.00. Not too bad for a (16) player field. The player match-ups were dictated with a re-draw each
and every round until only two players remained. Those players played one extended race to (10)
games to determine the winner.
Evans Bishop (The Greek Express), made his way to the finals using his buy back option along the
way, to face Tony Confalone who advanced to the finals without a buyback. The format of the tourney
called for the winner to receive 70% of the funds and the second place finisher to receive 30%. This
split did not include the $20.00 winner take all side pot but did include the balance of the prize fund.
Evans won the event and took home over $1700.00 when he defeated Tony by the score of 10-6 in the
one race final. Tony received over $650.00 for his second place finish. Dennis Orender finished third
after a disappointing loss to Evans in the semi's. Dennis was way behind in the semi's, came
storming back, then saw his hopes for a finals appearance dashed when he played a perfect safe
late in the match only to watch in disbelief as the object ball kissed and made it's way into a pocket
creating a safe on himself. Jimmy Mendoza finished fourth.
The positive buzz surrounding the tournament was exceptional as player after player expressed how
much they liked the format.
