Major Tournaments Slated For Phoenix, Arizona

Professional and open pool tournaments with purses totaling an estimated $60,000+ will be held this
February and April in Phoenix, Arizona. A number of world class players are expected to compete in
the two events: the 10-ball Desert Dust-Off set for February 22-24, and the Desert Shootout 9-ball
tourney to be held April 24th to April 27th.
The Desert Dust-Off, an open event with a guaranteed $5,000 added purse, will be played on 'bar
tables' under Billiards Congress of America rules at Alexander's Bar & Grill, 3603 West Dunlap in
northwest Phoenix. Competition will be open to the first 96 entrants at $100 each, with all entry
monies added to the purse.
A $25,000 added purse is being offered for all comers - professional and amateur - in the Desert
Shootout to be staged at the Sheraton Crescent Hotel, Interstate 17 and Dunlap. The Shootout will
be competed on full 9-foot 'professional cut' tables under World Pool Association rules. A minimum
of 25% of all entrants will share in the purse.
"The Shootout will be the first professional billiards tournament in Phoenix in more than 11 years,"
explains Kevin Lewis, president of the sponsoring Pool Players Promotions of Phoenix. "Everyone in
our group has a tremendous love for the sport, we know how tournaments should be run, and how
players want to be treated."
Players from throughout the U.S. and Canada, as well as Europe and Asia, are expected to compete in
one or both events. A special discounted room rate is available at the Sheraton Crescent Hotel
(1-800-325-3535) by mentioning the Desert Shootout.
Up to 400 spectators, including V.I.P seating, will be accommodated at the events, with admission
starting at $10 per session.
