Thirty-five Women came to Sixshooters for the AWBT’s 6th stop. This was a WPBA Qualifier for the WPBA
Midwest Classic in October.
The race for the Qualifier spot heated up in round 9 when Kristin Haney played Marissa Hallett. These were the
last two women still in the tourney who paid to play for the Qualifier spot so the match was extremely tense.
Kristin came out victorious with a 7-2 win! Marissa then went on to finish in 4th place, knocked out by Kristie
Ortega. That meant that from that point on, Kristin was guaranteed the Qualifier spot! Any wins from that point
on were for bonus money! Congratulations Kristin! We’ll all be rooting for you in October!
Kristin then went on to play Holly Sholes for the
hot seat. Holly dominated the match and won
7 to 2, which earned her the hot seat. The next
match on the one-loss side pitted Kristin against
Kristie Ortega to see who would get to challenge
Holly in the finals and who would be sent home in
3rd place. It looked like it would be a fast match
as Kristie quickly jumped off to a 5 to 1 lead. But
then Kristin came back and won the next 3 games
which made the score 5 to 4 all of a sudden!
Kristin then scratched on the 9-ball, which gave
Kristie an easy game to put her on the hill. Kristin
won the next game, but then the scratch bug bit
again after pocketing the 4 ball, which brought
Kristie up to the table with a 4 ball out. Kristie
made the 4 balls and won the match 7 to 5!
So it was down to the last two women standing - Kristie Ortega vs. Holly Sholes! Since this was a true double
elimination format, Kristie would have to beat Holly in two sets of races to 7! Holly took off to a quick 3 to 0 lead.
The match went back and forth until game 8. Kristie missed the 5 ball, which left Holly with a 4 ball out. Holly
made all 4 balls with ease which won her the game. This also made the score 6 to 2, with Holly on the hill, and
Holly’s turn to break. Holly broke and snapped the 9 on the break which won her the match! In a split second, it
was over! Congratulations to Kristie for 2nd place and $230 and congratulations to Holly for 1st place and $335
in prize money!
Holly will also be attending the WPBA Classic event in October! She had earned a paid entry by winning one of
our previous AWBT WPBA Qualifiers! Congratulations Holly! We’ll all be rooting for you and Kristin both!
13 women came back on Sunday to play in the free second chance event. Congratulations to Michelle Trevino
for 1st place and $75, Terri Johnson-McCauley for 2nd place and $40 and Claudia Justus for 3rd and $20 in
prize money.
We also held a raffle for a beautiful burgundy J. Pechauer Custom Cue valued at $480! The winner was our
very own AWBT Member, Linda Adams! Congratulations Linda! We’re really happy for you! This is such an
awesome cue! You will love it! Thanks to everyone for buying tickets! We raised $315 which will go directly into
the AWBT points fund!
We’d like to send out a BIG HUGE thank you to JR, Bobbie, Nicole, Sara and all the other staff at Sixshooters!
We LOVE you guys! The food is fabulous and the atmosphere is awesome!
We look forward to seeing you all next month in Tucson at Pockets on August 18th and 19th! This tourney will
