Mitch Ellerman Wins Alexander's 2007 Big Gun
Round Robin Invitational
Mitch Ellerman & Tony Confalone
|
On Saturday & Sunday, June 9th & 10th, Alexander's held
their first ever Big Gun Round Robin Invitational.
Alexander's invited eight players who were all rated ten or
above to participate. The players paid $200.00 each to
enter the tournament plus a $25.00 green fee. Alexander's
added $200.00 to the prize fund to bring the total money to
$1800.00. The players played 9-Ball and each player played
the other seven players one time in a race to (13) games.
The two players that won the most matches met in the
finals in a one race final to (13). In case there was a tie in
the number of matches won, the most over-all games won
would break the tie. If the games won were the same then
the fewest number of games lost was the second tie
breaker.
The tournament tie breaker was not needed at the end.
Mitch Ellerman and Tony Confalone won five matches
each which put those two players in the finals. Tres Kane
and Jimmy Mendoza won four matches leaving them close,
but out, of the finals. Mike Pankoff, Mike Williams, and
Dennis Orender won three matches each. Terry Osborne
won one match.
In the race to (13) final between Mitch and Tony, the set
went back and forth until the score stood at 11 / 11. Mitch
won the final two games to close Tony out and win the
tournament. Mitch received $1200.00 for his win while
Tony settled for second place and $600.00.
On a special note: If Terry Osborne had beaten Tony in
the last round, Tres would have gotten into the finals.
Terry made a great effort but Tony was not to be denied
his chance at the dough. ...... On the first day (Saturday),
when Tony was playing Mike Pankoff, Pankoff led that
match 8-6 only to sit and watch as Tony ran out the set
(7-pack) to beat Mike 13-8. ..... Ellerman had to beat Mike
Williams, in the last round, to get into the finals.
