| Mike Pankoff Wins Leg #3 Of Olhausen Arizona All-Around Tour |
Sixty - six players made up the field at the most recent leg of the 2007 Olhausen Desert
All-Around Tour. This event was played at Metro Sportz Bar, in Phoenix, Arizona. The
tournament was an 8-ball event played on the bar tables and each match was a race to seven
games. The tournament was played on Saturday and Sunday, April 14th & 15th, 2007.
As the winners side bracket narrowed, on Sunday, the hot seat match found Mike Pankoff
playing Mitch Ellerman. Pankoff won this match, and the hot seat, when he defeated Mitch 7-4.
As Pankoff waited for his finals opponent, the left side of the bracket became the focus.
On the one-loss side, Jimmy Mendoza defeated Babe Thompson 7-6. Jimmy then played
Dennis Orender in a match that went hill/hill with Dennis winning and staying alive in the
tournament. Dennis then lost 7-5 to Gus Briseno. Jimmy's loss to Dennis left him with a 5th/6th
finish. Dennis settled for 4th after his loss to Gus.
With the field now down to three players and with Pankoff still sitting pretty in the hot seat, Gus
and Mitch played with the winner advancing to the finals and the match loser being forced to
settle for 3rd place. Ellerman won this match hill/hill after battling back from 2-0 and 5-3
deficits.
Ellerman won the first set of the finals, over Pankoff, 7-3, which forced a second and deciding
set for the championship. Mike Pankoff turned the tide in the deciding set and ran away from
Mitch with a 7-3 victory.
